Red Rose School is an Operation Encompass school.Operation Encompass is a national safeguarding partnership between police and education settings which enables the school to receive timely notifications when a pupil has been exposed to or affected by a domestic abuse incident.
The information is shared throughout the year including the school holidays and weekends.
The school recognises that children affected by domestic abuse are victims and may require additional support.
Notifications are shared with the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) or nominated key member of staff, to enable appropriate support and safeguarding measures to be put in place. Notifications are handled confidentially and in accordance with safeguarding and data protection requirements.
The DSL / key member of staff is trained to liaise with the police.
Our Encompass Lead is Mrs Gill Makinson (Headteacher).
The police share the information in confidence to ensure that the school is aware of the difficulties and support is available for a child. This information will only be shared on a need to know basis to teaching staff for the child.
Operation Encompass was introduced in 2011, and has effectively provided appropriate and timely support to children affected by domestic abuse. This initiative is now statutory for national police services.
